Abstract
661,490. Lathe centres. BAKER, F. C., and SPENCER, E. G. March 21, 1949, No. 7654/49. Class 83 (iii). [Also in Groups XXI, XXIII, XXIV and XXVIII] A shaft 14 on a lathe headstock 11 supports and drives the shaft 15 of a grinding-wheel 16 through a coupling comprising two diametrically opposed V-grooves, similar to the groove 17, on the end of the shaft 14, registering with similar but 90 degrees circumferentially displaced grooves on the end of the shaft 15, which is maintained in position by a centring tailstock 12. The edges 22 between the grooves can be slightly rounded off. The tail-stock spindle 13 may have the usual coned end for engaging a central recess in the shaft 15, or may interengage the shaft through a second coupling of the kind described above, when the shaft may be reversible.
