Abstract
752,648. Securing handles on shafts. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1954 [Nov. 30, 1953], No. 34533/54. Class 80(2) The hub 12 of an interior die-cast handle for motor vehicles, such as for window regulators or door locks, detachably mounted on a spindle 19 with longitudinal serrations 21 between an annular groove 23 and the spindle end, has a serrated bore 16 fitting the serrations 21, a recess 24 registering with the groove 23, an adjacent recess 32 of larger diameter, and a separate plate 34 fixed against the shoulder between the recess by peening, the hub being secured against axial movement by a hairpin spring 41, the legs 43 of which extend through side openings 27 to engage opposite sides of the annular groove 23 and which is retained in position by inwardly-bent parts 44 of the spring cooperating with ears 39 on the hub parts 38 extending between the openings 27. The spring 41 extends in line with the arm part 13 of the handle so that, while its head 42 and the openings 27 are shielded from normal view, the head 42 remains easily accessible for withdrawal of the spring by a suitable tool, for removal of the handle from the spindle.
