Abstract
657,234. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRO ACOUSTIC INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and BARDEN, G. A. Feb. 24, 1949, No. 5073. [Class 39 (i)] In a device for adjusting the magnetic gap between soft iron polepieces on a cylindrical magnet surrounding the neck of a cathode-ray tube, three screws cooperate with a flange on a tubular polepiece and a fixed plate on the magnet assembly. In the embodiment shown, the magnet 1 has polepieces in the form of plates 2, 3 having apertures 4, 5, respectively, the latter one being larger to accommodate the tubular polepiece 6 between which and the polepiece 2 is the adjustable magnet gap 11. The flange 7 on pole-piece 6 is triangular and in the case shown carries three captive nuts 9 engaging studs 10 on plate 3. Alternatively screws may engage freely plate 3 or the flange 7 and engage threaded holes in the flange or the plate, tension or compression springs being located between the plate and flange. Further, screws having heads captive on the flange may engage threaded holes in plate 3. The above construction may be used with a device for separately varying the gap as a whole comprising a tubular member having slots or grooves co-operating with a pin or pins or vice versa, the adjustment being obtained by rotating the member.
