Abstract
517,704. Electron microscopes. FIDES GES. FUR DIE VERWALTUNG UND VERWERTUNG VON GEWERBLICHEN SCHUTZRECHTEN. Aug. 5, 1938, No. 23222. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] A microscope is divided, in the neighbourhood of the object, into two parts which are relatively movable in a direction perpendicular to the axis of radiation, and are separated by roller bearings. A gate 1 and a plate 4 are separated by steel balls 11 arranged between agate plates 12. Sealing is effected by a rubber sleeve 14, which is secured to the gate by a band and to the plate by a flange 15. The object is mounted in a plug 2 and is suitably arranged at a point 3 by means described in Specification 518,317. A magnetic coil 6 is wound on the tube wall 5, into which are fitted pole pieces 7, 8 which form the magnetic lens. The object is adjusted by three thumb screws 18, two of which press on the gate through steel balls and agate plates, and the other through a leaf spring. Apertures 22, 23, 24, 25 or symmetrically arranged pipes connect the discharge spaces on each side of the object. A cooling channel 26 closed by a soldered plate 27 is used for cooling, e.g., by liquid air, the object, and cooling channels 9 are used for cooling the magnet.
