Abstract
656,592. Pressure gauges. GRISLEY, F. Dec. 7, 1948, No. 31646. [Class 106 (ii)] A pressure gauge for use in extrusion machines or other apparatus employing high fluid pressures, comprises a thin metal diaphragm mounted at the end of a tube fixed or screwed into the wall of the pressure vessel, one side of the diaphragm being exposed to the fluid pressure and the other side of the diaphragm contacting a movable rod passing through the tube to transfer elastic deflections of the diaphragm to a dial micrometer fixed to the outer end of the tube, the stiffness of the diaphragm being very large in comparison with that of the dial micrometer so that the diaphragm itself is substantially the calibrated spring constituting the gauge. The diaphragm may be interchangeable with others of different stiffness. The gauge may include adjustable means, such as levers, by which any multiple of the deflection of the diaphragm may be applied to the dial micrometer. The gauge may be adapted to record by the use of known recording arrangements.
