Abstract
648,358. Positive clutches. SIGNODE STEEL STRAPPING CO. Feb. 27, 1948, No. 6153. Convention date, July 12, 1945. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Groups I, XV, XVII,. and XXXIV] In a bundling machine, (see Groups I. and XVII), the drive to a cam shaft 49 includes a one-revolution clutch comprising a gear 56 which is loosely mounted on the shaft and carries driving lugs 57 adapted for engagement with a spring- loaded pivoted latch 59 carried by a cam 58 keyed to the shaft. The latch is normally maintained out of the path of the lugs 57 by a spring-pressed plug 65 which may be depressed momentarily to initiate one revolution of the cam shaft by the action of a lever 71 under the control of the opera-- tor. After one revolution, a bevelled surface on the latch engages a similar surface on the plug, whereby the latch is with-- drawn from the path of the lugs and the cam shaft brought to rest.
