Abstract

647,550. Pumps. FRANCIS, E. L. M. (Inffeld, K. L. G. M. von). Dec. 31, 1947, No. 35238. [Class 7(ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In an exhaust-driven turbo-blower each cylinder delivers gas to a separate set of nozzles 10 by a short passage 11, the volume of which is less than, and preferably less than half, the volume swept by the piston. Limiting sizes of nozzle areas related to cylinder area, piston speed, and exhaust gas temperature, are set out. As shown, a twelvecylinder engine has a turbo-blower arranged between each four cylinders, and the blowers are connected in series by piping 13, 14, 15 but they may be connected in parallel especially in the first stage.
