Abstract
645,336. Counting-apparatus. SMITH METERS, Ltd., and CHARLES, A. Oct. 24, 1946, No. 31640. [Class 106 (i)] The invention relates to counters, for use in gas meters &c. in which a continuous rotary motion applied to the counter is changed into an intermittent motion driving indicating elements displaying numerals through apertures, the numerals displayed thus changing rapidly by jumps. A test pointer 5, Fig. 1, is geared to a second pointer 6 geared to a pinion 11, Fig. 2, having a alot 14 into which extends a pin 13 on a pinion 12, Fig. 5, geared to a pinion 15 connected to the driving member 16 of a Geneva mechanism operating the lowest numeral disc 17. A cam 18 is connected to the pinion 15 and rocks clockwise a lever 19 against the action of a spring until the lever reaches the point of the cam, whereupon the spring restores the lever and suddenly advances the cam, the driving member 16 and the numeral disc 17, this movement being permitted by the movement of the pin 13 in the slot 14. In a modification, the cam is mounted freely on the shaft of the disc 17 and is driven by a gear engaging the pinion 15.
