Abstract
596,002. Intermittent gearing. TARRY, G. S., and THURMAN, P. E. July 13, 1945, No. 17916. [Class 80(i)] [Also in Group XX] Gearing for obtaining an intermittent rotation of a shaft b from a continuously driven shaft a comprises a cam n on the. shaft a which imparts a combined reciprocatory and oscillatory motion to a follower j, one end of which is guided by a slot j<SP>2</SP> engaging a fixed pin m and the other end of which has a slot j<SP>1</SP> which co-operates with pins k on a wheel 1 secured to the shaft b so that a step-by-step movement is imparted to the shaft b. The wheel 1 also has arcuate recesses 1<SP>1</SP> corresponding to the circumference of a locking disc o secured to the cam n to check movement of the wheel 1 except in one angular position of the disc o which is provided with a recess o<SP>1</SP> for this purpose. The cam n may be replaced by an eccentric or a cam may be utilised to provide the oscillatory motion and an eccentric for the reciprocatory motion. In a modified arrangement the follower j is extended to co-operate with the pins on the far side of the pin wheel 1 giving a quicker movement action. The mechanism is particularly suitable for application to cinematograph projectors and a method of converting a known form of claw action device of a sub-standard projector is described.
