Abstract
737,321. Altimeter. APPLEBY& IRELAND, Ltd., and APPLEBY, E. M. H. Jan. 12, 1954 [Jan. 12, 1953], No. 892/53. Class 106 (2). An altimeter comprising a pressure-sensitive capsule and an indicator making more than one revolution over a dial to cover the complete range of the instrument is characterized in that the mechanical advantage of the gearing between the indicator and sensitive capsule varies with the altitude indicated in such a way that equal altitude differences produce equal movement of the indicator. The indicator mechanism 35 having three needles sweeping the one dial and indicating respectively 100's, 1000's and 10,000's of feet is driven by a toothed quadrant 34 fixed to a rock-bar 27 which is rotated by a rod 17 pivotally connected at 14 to the pressure-sensitive capsule 11, the rod 17 being constrained to move along a slot 18 in a fixed cam plate 19.
