Abstract

644,909. Sack holders. JOHNSON, E., and WRIGHT & CO., Ltd., R. O. March 1, 1948, No. 6440. [Class 58] A sack holder comprises a pair of arms 21, 22 supported for relative movement towards and away from one another from a stationary frame, which may be adjustable in height, and a releasable toggle-like mechanism acting on the arms through a spring 36 to separate them, while the me.- chanism is being straightened until in an overset position, parts e.g. pads 24 carried by the arms are held resiliently pressed outwardly by the spring against opposite sides of the mouth. As shown, one toggle link 27 is pivoted at one end to the arm 21 at 28 and at the other end to the second link 31 which has a sliding engagement with a bush 32 pivoted at 33 to the arm 22. The arms 21. 22 are pivoted to a transverse frame member 11 mounted on a shaft (12, not shown) slidable in a pillar (13, not shown) mounted on a base. The spring 36 interacts between the arm 22 and an abutment 35 on the link 31. In a modification, (Fig. 5, not shown), the pads 24 are replaced by metal segments supported from arms of slightly different construction.
