Abstract
637,854. Optical apparatus. SORDOILLET, P. Nov. 28, 1946, No. 9673. Convention date, March 28, 1945. [Class 97 (i)] Optical apparatus for viewing microscopic objects comprises a pair of binoculars and a magnifying lens system which are removably mounted on a common support so as to be used separately or in combination. In the form shown, the binoculars 1 are held on a support 7 by a screw and locking shoe arrangement 11 and a carrier 33 for the magnifying lens has flanges which form a sliding fit in grooves formed on the underside of the support 7 and which are held in said grooves by a spring catch. The support 7 is pivoted to an arm 19 which is pivoted at 18 to the body 15 of a tripod and is formed with gear teeth 17 engaging a worm 21 on the tripod. Thus, rotation of worm 21 varies the height of support 7 above the ground on which the feet of the tripod rest. The common optical axis of the magnifying lens and the binoculars is variably inclined to the vertical by means of two rods 22, 25 which have thereon threads of opposite end and screw into a sleeve 26, the other ends of the rods being respectively pivoted to the tripod 15 and the support 7.
