Abstract
637,190. Frictional pocket igniter. ORMESHER, A. H. May 23, 1947, No. 13912. [Class 75 (iii)] A frictional pocket igniter has a coiled compression spring g which presses against a flint at one end and at the other end has a stem h the free end of which protrudes from a guide tube f and bears against the base c<SP>3</SP> of a pressure-regulating cap member c slidably and adjustably secured upon the main casing a to vary the pressure of the flint k against the friction wheel. The main casing a and cap member c are provided with a series of equally spaced indentations and ribs c<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>2</SP> and a<SP>1</SP> to hold the lower cap in the adjusted position. The coiled compression spring g may be adjustably attached to stem h by having the lower coils g<SP>2</SP> closed together to form a screw thread of a pitch corresponding to that on stem h<SP>3</SP>, Fig. 6. Alternatively stem h may be provided with a collar h<SP>1</SP> which bears against the end of spring g, a sleeve washer i, and a steady pin h<SP>2</SP> which enters into the end of spring g, Fig 5. When a new flint is to be fitted the cap member c is removed but spring g is retained in the guide tube f by the close fitting sleeve washer i or packing piece thereby preventing the loss of the spring assembly and facilitating the flint replacement. The friction wheel may be rotated by manual operation, lever or snuffer.
