Abstract

633,594. Cable joints. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP NEDERLANDSCHE KABELFABRIEK. Dec. 24, 1947, Nos. 34146 and 34147. Convention dates, July 5, 1940 and May 7, 1941. [Class 38 (i)] A joint for hollow oilfilled cables 1 comprises a clamp 2 surrounded by insulation 11 built up to provide open spaces in which the cable conductors are bowed out at the ends of the clamp and provided with channels 6, 7, 8, 9 communicating with the space outside the joint insulation. The conductors are bent out between rings 3, 4, which retain them in position during the drawing-in process, thereby permitting the oil flow through the spaces into the cables and are surrounded by perforated equipotential screens 5. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), one space replaces the two spaces and extends across the clamp which then bisects it, and an insulating spacer may be provided around the joint in the vicinity of the clamp to centre the assembly in the cable sheath.
