Abstract
632,806. Valves ; gas pipes. SKELTON, J. S., and SMITH, C. M. Jan. 28, 1947, No. 2637. [Classes 54 and 135] In a safety cut-off valve, e.g. for preventing the pressure wave of gas resulting from a backfire in an oxy-acetylene plant, reaching the acetylene supply source, in which the gas normally flows from the supply through an inlet member 11 and a coiled tube 19 to the outlet 3, a back pressure wave acts on the smaller end of a differential piston 4 to close the larger end of the piston on to a seating on the inlet member before the pressure wave can pass through the tube 19, the piston being held closed by a spring-loaded locking catch 8. The catch is released by a handle 12 which cooperates with a lever 14 to lift the piston.
