Abstract

632,085. Knitting-machines. STIBBE & CO., Ltd., G., STIBBE, E. V., and BROWN, A. M. Jan. 13, 1947, No. 1059. [Class 74 (ii)] The driving mechanism for a circular knitting machine includes a jaw clutch which connects the cylinder and its gear ring, enabling the cylinder to be raised or lowered. The cylinder 2 slides in a sleeve 1 having a flange 4 to which is secured the gear ring 8. The clutch comprises extensions 3 of the cylinder 2 which pass through slots in the flange 4 to engage a ballbearing ring 10 resting on the cylinder raising tube 11. The cylinder and sleeve may be connected by tension springs 14, threaded on studs 17 on the top of the sleeve and passed through holes in flanges 15, 21 to be locked by pins 19. The springs 14 keep the cylinder in contact with the ring 10. This arrangement of springs is described and claimed in Specification 632,143.
