631,303. Winding layouts for dynamo-electric machines. JONES, H. H., and JONES & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., W. Nov. 26, 1947, No. 31372. Drawings to Specification. [Class 35] In order to facilitate winding a multipolar machine such as a H.F. alternator or two-speed A.C. motor, a coil is made of the required dimensions for winding at least four slots, and is arranged with its sides crossed over at each slot to be filled and then laid with the crossed sides in the slots. Alternatively, one side of each coil is introduced in the slots by zigzagging to and fro across the core and then the other side of the coil is treated in the same fashion on top of the first side so that the M.M.F.'s due to both sides of the coil are additive. To obtain greater flexibility of the coils, they may be subdivided into two or more thinner coils. The invention is applicable to multi-phase windings to heteropolar or homopolar machine and to the exciting windings of rotating field machines.
