Abstract

Multicoloured relief coatings are produced by use of a basic liquid coating composition into which are stirred small liquid absorbent particles dyed a colour different from that of the coating composition, the basic composition or the dye being such that the dye absorbed by the particles, even when dry, will penetrate the basic composition as long as the latter is wet. The particles are preferably of sawdust, but may consist of husks or fine shavings. These may be coloured by mixing in liquid dye consisting of turpentine, oil lacquer (e.g. copal lacquer) and aniline dye, and leaving to dry. The basic composition is preferably a distemper or glue paint to which may be added an emulsifying composition consisting, for example, of liquid soap and varnish or enamel. Various coloured mixtures of dyed and undyed particles may be used.
