Abstract
326,649. Ellis, G. B., (Rensch, M.). Feb. 27, 1929. Coating processes.-A coating comprising two coats of paint applied one on top of the other whilst still wet, is effected by adding an oxide or hydroxide, or a resinic, oleic or wax acid soap of an alkaline earth metal to the paint for the first coat, and using for the second coat a paint whose binding agent contains thickened or sulphurated fatty oils, boiled oils, caoutchouc or its decomposition products, caoutchous milk resins, cellulose esters or cellulose ethers. In particular examples, (1) iron is first coated with a paint consisting of linseed oil varnish, slaked lime, zinc oxide and iron scale, and then, before the first coat is dry, a covering coating is applied which comprises zinc oxide, iron scale, a mixture of linseed oil and boiled linseed oil which has been treated with sulphur chloride, mineral spirit or benzene and driers. (2) Wood or walls are first coated with a paint comprising amber, linseed oil, pigments and magnesium hydroxide and then with a paint whose binding agent comprises boiled linseed and wood oils or boiled linseed oil, linseed oil varnish and caoutchouc milk resin.
