Abstract
625,507. Root-crop harvesting. PACKMAN, P. J. Aug. 1, 1947, No. 21123. [Class 6(iii)] A haulm-stripping device, of the kind comprising a rotating drum 12 having teeth 11 movable transversely across a potatoridge, is characterized by the provision of a platform 16 arranged to travel along the side of the ridge beneath the teeth and constitute a lateral extension of the ridge on the side at which the teeth leave it, in order to support the haulm during stripping. The device may form part of a potatodigging machine such as that described in Specification 584,502. The platform 16 is attached to the framing 17 of the machine which carries a steel shoe 20 to skim the side of the potato-ridge. The platform is of rubber and its rear end, which is unsupported, is spaced about half-an-inch below the drum to allow the passage of stones. A further platform may be provided on the other side of the ridge. In a modification, the platform is in the form of a disc. which is rotated by the passage of soil over it.
