Abstract
650,623. Moulding shoe lasts. PELANT, V. March 10, 1948, No. 7357. Convention date, March 14, 1947. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups VII and XXII] A last 4 is made by casting a low-melting point substance, e.g. Wood's Metal, in a mould made to fit the foot. An extensible stocking 1 is drawn over the foot 2 and then stiffened, e.g. by a celluloid solution to form a mould which is removed from the foot by cutting along tapes 3. The parts are then rejoined and used as a mould to cast the last which may then be ground to shape as at a or have material added as at b. To give the desired arching to the mould the celluloid solution may be first applied to the sole only,of the stocking, which is then placed on a shaped block 5, while the whole stocking is stiffened. The part II of the stocking is less extensivle than the remainder to give a tighter fit in this part and the portion III may be cut off and replaced by a preformed stiffened tip 1a to give any desired toe shape.
