'[Class 17(ii)] A sole for a shoe with a detachable upper has a groove G formed between the insole 3 and the base part 1 in which retainer means comprising a thickening of the edge of the upper is secured. The retainer means may be a strip of metal or other material secured to the edge of the upper which is slid into the groove until holes in it engage pins 6, 7. A part of the insole, preferably the toe or heel, is hinged to the remainder to allow the upper retainer means to be removed but which when secured by a fastening 4, 5 prevents withdrawal of the retainer means. Specification 629,163 is referred to.
