Abstract
625,157. Spring clips. HUGHES, R. M. (Slencil Co.). Jan. 27, 1947, No. 2479. [Class 44] [Also in Group VII] A spring clip e.g. for a flat pencil, Fig. 1, comprises a length of wire bent to form a loop 1, the two parallel arms 3 and 4 being arched at 12 and cranked at 5 and 6 to provide fulcrums in a plane with the end 1 to engage the plate face 2 of the pencil. Sections 7 and 8 extending beyond the fulcrums are bent to form loops having legs 9 extending towards the end 1 along opposite sides of the pencil to engage by inturned ends in sockets 10. When the clip is to be applied to a wooden pencil, the inturned ends may be sharpened so that they will readily form their own sockets. The upper loops of the clip may be extended beyond the end of the pencil (and the rubber 11) so that it may be held in a pocket in a concealed position. In a modification e.g. for a ruler 13, Fig. 10, the clip is arranged to engage sockets in a face of the ruler opposite to that engaged by the gripping arm. The ends of the ruler may be slotted to pass the loops 7, 8 of the clip. In another, form Fig. 7, the clip is formed from sheet steel and has a triangular clamping arm 14 with an end 15, fulcrum portions 16, 17 and loops 20, 21. An auxiliary clamp arm 23 having an end 23x is pressed out of the main arm.
