Abstract
621,714. Electromagnetic switches. FKG F. KESSELRING GERATEBAU AKT.- GES. Feb. 20, 1947, No. 5059. Convention date, Feb 23, 1946. [Class 38(v)] Electromagnetic switches, which may be used as relays, regulators, converters &c. are made to have a switching time of less than 3. 10<SP>-4</SP> seconds by making the product of the length of the switch element 1 and the length of the air gap in centimetres divided by the magnetic induction in the air gap in Gausses less than 1. 5. 10<SP>-5</SP>. In the form shown, the switch element 1 consists of iron plates 5 on either' side of a plate 4 of good conducting material which carries the contacts 3 and is arranged to rotate about a pivot 2 formed of a thin torsion spring which allows also a certain translational movement. Energization of the electro-magnets 8 rotates the switch element 1 out of engagement with the abutments (or contacts) 6 and into engagement with the contacts 7. The restoring force may be spring, gravity, magnetic or centrifugal.
