Abstract
Fluorocarbons are recovered from a mixture of one or more hydrocarbons with partially and completely fluorinated products thereof by contacting the mixture in the cold with a solvent for the hydrocarbons which is substantially a non-solvent for the fluorocarbons at the temperature of extraction, separating the fluorocarbon layer from the solvent layer, and distilling the fluorocarbon layer. The solvent may be a lower aliphatic alcohol or ketone. The hydrocarbon in the extract may be recovered by adding water. Examples are given of the recovery of fluorinated heptane and toluene using methylated spirit as solvent.
