Abstract
620,384. Electric water heaters. Mc- DOWELL, O. A. Jan. 17, 1947, No. 1579. Addition to 601,843. [Class 39(iii)] [Also in Group XIII] In a thermostatically-controlled electric water heater as described in the parent Specification, a tubular corrugated metal spacer t, e.g. of copper, is substituted for the riser pipe described in the parent Specification, the spacer being in heat-conducting continuity with the outer surface of a brass tube l of the thermostat and the inner surface of a downcast pipe q. Switches r<SP>1</SP>, s<SP>1</SP>, in the circuits of heating elements rand s, are manually adjusted by means of a screw 3 which bears against the middle of a bar 4, the downwardly-depressed ends of which bear against the ends of a crosspiece p of an inner rod m of the thermostat. Hence screwing down of the screw 3 causes the crosspiece p to bend and so adjust the positions of tappets p', p carried by the crosspiece p relatively to the switches r<SP>1</SP>, s<SP>1</SP>. Water entering by a spigot d passes up the inner corrugated spacer t, which extends part way up the pipe q, and then over the top of the spacer into the downcast pipe q and out via slots q<SP>1</SP> in the pipe.
