Abstract

619,156. Valve modulating circuits. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., and MOSS, H. Nov. 8, 1946, No. 33314. [Class 40 (v)] In order to obtain 100 per cent modulation with low distortion, unidirectional radio frequency pulses are applied to the grid of an anode modulated valve; the resultant modulated pulses being applied to a resonant circuit from which amplitude-modulated oscillations are derived. The short grid-base valve V1 supplied from a high voltage anode potential source has a high resistor R3 in the cathode circuit byepassed at RF by a condenser C1, which, however, allows negative feed-back of audio -frequencies ; and the grid is connected to a potential divider R1, R2 in which R1>R2, so that the anode current is substantially proportional to the anode voltage. Negativegoing pulses at carrier frequency are applied to the grid by a tuned high-frequency transformer and a rectifier T. Audio-frequency modulation is applied in the anode circuit at K. A tuned circuit LF, C3 converts the amplitude-modulated pulses into amplitude-modulated oscillations.
