Abstract
619,114. Gas turbine plant. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Nov. 22, 1946, No. 34636. Convention date, Dec. 22, 1945. [Class 110(iii)] In a gas turbine plant of the kind in which part of the working medium flows in a circuit in which it is compressed by at least one compressor 1, 2 and expanded in at least one circuit turbine, and from which circuit some of the working medium is extracted and expanded in at least two turbines 23, 25, and to which circuit working medium is introduced through at least one compressor 30 as make-up for the working medium extracted, at least one circuit turbine and one turbine driven by the extracted working medium each drive a compressor and at least one turbine driven by the extracted working medium supplies the useful output of the plant. The turbine operated by the working medium extracted from the circuit which drives the compressor is preferably placed ahead of the turbine supplying the useful output and the gas flowing between the turbines may be reheated in a combustion chamber 24. The air leaving the compressor 2 is preheated in two heat exchangers 5, 7, arranged in parallel and valves in the pipes 4, 6 leading to the heat exchangers allow the air distribution to be controlled to suit the working conditions. The heat exchanger 5 is heated by the exhaust air from the turbine 14 and the heat exchanger 7 by the exhaust gases of the turbine 25. The gas leaving the heat exchanger may pass to further points of use through the pipe 29. The air leaving the heat exchanger 7 may join the heat exchanger 5 at the point where the temperature is equal to its own temperature. Modifications in which the power output turbine is ahead of the compressor driving turbine and in which the compressors 30 and 1 are driven by the turbine 14 and the compressor 2 by the turbine 23 are described.
