Abstract
615,814. Sack holders. BRIGHT, E. H. Aug. 10, 1946, No. 23736. [Class 58] Apparatus for manipulating sacks and the like receptacles comprises supports arranged for relative movement on a framework above the receptacle so as to be brought into an operative position in which they engage with and support the mouth of the receptacle in the open position, and means for locking the supports in the operative position under tension. In a preferred construction a pair of spreaders 10 adapted to engage the mouth of the sack or the like are mounted on trolleys 5, 6. carried by a rail 4, at least one of the trolleys being movable with respect to the other. The gear for tensioning the spreaders against the mouth of the sack or the like may comprise a cable 17 and pulleys 13, 14, and the locking means may comprise a pedal-operated pawl and ratchet mechanism, the rack being shown at 27. To permit quick release of the spreaders 10 when the pawl is released from the rack 27, springs may be provided for urging the trolleys 5 and 6 towards one another.
