Abstract
615,645. Jet propulsion nozzles. SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU SUD-OUEST. March 5, 1946, No. 6789. Convention date, May 14, 1945. [Class 110 (iii)] A nozzle in which the effective throat area for gas flow is adjustable consists of a cylindrical pipe and an unobstructed ring near the mouth of the pipe, this ring being coaxial with the pipe and axially movable in and out of the pipe. A variable area jet propulsion nozzle comprises an unobstructed ring 2, preferably having an aerofoil axial section, which is placed coaxial with the pipe 1 and may be moved along the axis of the nozzle by links 4, 5, pivoted on a support 6. The link 5 has an extension 5a to which the operating arm 8 is attached. To distribute the load on the pipe more than one set of links may be provided and the operating arms 8 may be connected to a sleeve 10 sliding on the outside of the nozzle. The links 4, 5 are connected to the ring by ball joints 7 and are arranged tangentially to the ring. Sleeve 10 is mounted on a tube 11 heat insulated from the pipe 1.
