Abstract

614,821. Centrifugal pumps. NORMAN, E. J. H. Aug. 1, 1946, No. 22985. [Class 110 (i)] A pump comprises a casing 1, 2 and a bladed impeller disc 7 extending into a substantially annular chamber 2a having a central eye 22a. Rotation of the impeller 7 causes liquid to be drawn into and forced out of the chamber 2a through inlet ports 10, 9 and outlet ports 8 respectively on opposite sides of cut-off means 26. The pump is characterised in that the liquid before passing into the chamber 2a enters the eye 22a at the outer portion 24 of the latter and flows therethrough in a general direction transverse to the axis of rotation of the rotor to an outlet 22 from the eye the portion of the rotor within the eye being provided with one or more openings 28 extending therethrough.
