Abstract
492,854. Centrifugal pumps. HENSCHEL & SOHN, GES. Dec. 31, 1937, No. 36286. Convention date, Jan. 2. [Class 110 (i)] A centrifugal pump, for high discharge pressures and of the type comprising a rotating casing with stationary hollow shafts projecting into the casing and carrying a discharge member with inlet port opposed to the direction of rotation of the casing, has an air discharge so that the casing is substantially filled with liquid while the discharge member is streamlined and has its inlet opening located at the zone of high static pressure. Liquid enters by passages 21, 18, Fig. 1, and is thrown outwardly by the casing 11 which may have radial vanes 30, 31. The air escapes by passages 20, 22 and valve 23, while liquid is discharged by passages 26 in member 24 and shaft 17. In a multistage pump, Fig. 6, the member 33 has only one passage 35 leading to the adjacent casing, the final passage 35 leading to the hollow shaft 44. The casing may have concentric ribs 37 provided with radial apertures. The inlet to each passage 35 is at the highest point of the casing, and the member 33 may be inclined to the direction of movement of the liquid and of unsymmetric section.
