Abstract

472,987. Centrifugal pumps ; moistening air. OFFEN, A. April 2, 1936, No. 9804. [Class 110 (i)] [Also in Group XII] A liquid spray is introduced into fluid undergoing compression in a centrifugal air compresser by an auxiliary set of impeller blades 20 in the region of the rotor hub, a stationary annular hood surrounding the blades 20. The main blades 12 are carried by a plate 18 on a hub 19 keyed to the shaft 11 which also carries the auxiliary blades 20 on a hub 24. The guide blades 13 are mounted between a plate 15 extending from the casing and a plate 14 extending from a hub 16 forming with sleeve 22 a chamber for liquid introduced by pipe 23. The auxiliary blades 20 are so inclined and shaped as to force the liquid against the rotor blades 12, but with a tendency to swirl in a direction opposite to that given by the rotor blades. The casing has annular liquid-collecting channels 25 and outlets 36. Specifications 445,550 and 469,180 are referred to.
