Abstract
610,597. Forming rubber &c. into pellets by extrusion machines. BROWN, F. E. March 1, 1946, No. 3885/47. Divided out of 610,560. [Class 87(ii)] A machine in which plastic material such as rubber is forced along an enclosed passage and out through a gauze or other perforated member having small openings to retain foreign bodies, has one or more valve-controlled openings in the wall of the enclosed passage adjacent to the gauze,. these openings being normally closed and being opened when desired to permit the material to by-pass the gauze or the like and to flow out of the passage with little or no resistance. In a prefered form, the plastic material is forced by a screw into space 40, Fig. 2, and normally passes through straining gauze 24 and pelletizing die 22, but by rotation of ring valve 43 the material together with large impurities pass through ports 42 and 44. In a modification, Fig. 6, the plastic material normally passes through gauze 65 surrounding die 64, but foreign bodies may be forced through port 63 operated by a circular valve, this port normally being kept closed.
