Abstract
634,105. Extruding and pelletizing rubber or other plastic material. BROWN, F. E. Jan. 29, 1948, No. 2818/47. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group I] The material is forced along a passage of decreasing cross-sectional area, the passage being bounded by a stationary imperforate wall 38 and a stationary perforated die 22 through which the material passes to be severed into pellets by knives 45, the pressure by which the material is forced being applied by parts moving entirely beyond the limits of the passage. As shown, the pressure is applied by a screw 12, the end of which stops short of the passage. The die is lined with gauze 24. The wall 38 is a sleeve that forms part of a clamp 26 that holds one end of the die. The wall 38 is non-rotatably engaged with a core 35 supported by a spider 34, and is held in place by a screw 37 screwed into the core. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the die forms the inside of the passage and the imperforate surface the outside. Specifications 536,421, 610,560, 610,597 and 610,598 are referred to.
