Abstract
607,555. Vehicle supports. HART, SON, PEARD & CO., Ltd., JONES, P. E., and ROBERTS, R. W. Feb. 8, 1946, No. 3971. [Class 79 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXII] Relates to means for operating a jacking attachment for raising the draw-bar 1 of a towed vehicle wherein a jack arm 5 is pivoted to the draw-bar. According to the invention, a screw-threaded strut 11, which is pivotally and turnably connected to the jack arm 5 intermediate the ends thereof, carries a nut 12 releasably engaging an'abutment member 17, so that the jack arm may be pivoted about the draw-bar either by rotation of the strut when the nut engages the abutment or manually when the nut is released therefrom. Abutments 17 are integral with a base 16 bolted to the draw-bar. The jack arm comprises two plates 5 which carry pivotally between them a sleeve 14 in which the strut 11 is turnably secured, and also a foot 7, the face 8 of which is convex. A bracket 9 limits the deflection of the foot 7, and also serves to deflect earth from the foot if the vehicle should move rearwardly. A spring-loaded catch 21 (see Group XXV) can engage the pivot pin 23 of the foot 7 and may be released by a lever 27.
