Abstract

606,597. Electric heating. HOLT, H. B. W., HAYNES, G., and P.A.M., Ltd. Jan. 16, 1946, No. 1499. [Class 39(iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A unit heating device comprises a tube 1 containing an electric resistance element 6 and fitted with insulating end plugs 2, one plug carrying a pair of conducting male plugs 16, and the other a pair of female sockets 23, whereby two or more such heaters may be connected together to increase the heating effect. Each end of the resistance element 6 is connected to an insulated rod conductor 5, the rods being secured at one end to plug members 14 carrying contact pins 16, and at the other to socket members 22, the rods serving to place each pin 16 in contact with a socket 23. An externally screw-threaded ring 17 is fixed to the tube 1 at one end, an internally threaded flanged member 11 slidable on the tube 1 enabling two heaters to be joined together, or the heater connected to an adaptor 27. An end cap 18 may screw on the ring 17 to close the heater, and disc washers 19<1> and 39 render the device water proof. Heat resisting discs 24, suitably apertured, may support the heater 6.
