Abstract
549,796. Two-part couplings. MACHLETT LABORATORIES, Inc. May 12, 1941, No. 6136. Convention date, July 26, 1940. [Class 38 _(i)] The connections to a hightension device, such as an X- ray tube of the type having contacts 30 fitted at the base of a socket 15 into which is inserted a sleeve 20 mounted on the end of the supply cable 11 and carrying contacts 22 connected thereto, has the space between the socket and sleeve filled with a non-gaseous insulating medium 32 sealed within the space by a deformable gasket. The sleeve 15 is mounted in an extension 14 on the casing enclosing the tube and secured by a screw ring 18 within which fits a deformable gasket 33 of synthetic rubber or other material unaffected by the petroleum jelly or heavy oil 32 between the socket 15 and sleeve 20. The gasket is compressed beneath a flange 26 on the sleeve 20 when the clamping ring 35 is screwed down. A similar connection may be made between the cable 11 and the transformer. The invention may also be applied to a connection having interfitting grooves and ridges forming an elongated path between a coupling and a surrounding casing such as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,132,194, the grooves being filled with the non- gaseous insulating medium confined by a deformable ring laid in one of the outer grooves.
