Abstract

604,369. Potato-planting machines. LIDDELL, G. May 17, 1946, No. 13957/45. [Class 6(i)] A potato-planting machine comprises a wheeled chassis 2 supporting an inclined tray 1 from which potatoes gravitate singly on to the surfaces of moving belts 13 and are thereby fed to revolving vertical worms 17 which feed them to the ground. The machine is arranged for three-row planting and is adapted to be towed by a tractor. A pair of front caster wheels 7 is provided and a pair of rear wheels 6 from which the belts 13 and worms 17 derive their motion. The front end of the tray can be raised by a screw 5 and the rear end is fitted with partitions which guide the potatoes on to the moving belts. Furrow-opening and closing tools 27 and 28 are provided, and the machine also carries a seat 29 for an operator.
