Abstract

A pentanthrimide dyestuff is prepared by condensing one mol. of 1.5-dichloranthraquinone with two mols. each of 1.4-diaminoanthraquinone and alphachloranthraquinone. The product may be ringclosed by treatment with a catalyst comprising aluminium chloride, e.g. the aluminium chloride-ammonia complex referred to in French Specification 733,440. An example describes the condensation in naphthalene in presence of potassium carbonate and copper acetate, ringclosure with aluminium chloride, and purification with hydrosulphite and bleaching water. The products dye cotton reddish-brown.
