[Class 64 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] A thermally insulated food container comprises upper and lower casings 10a, 10b of plastic material the lower being closed by a plate 13 of plastic material which is formed with ribs 17 suitably shaped to support a pair of superposed vessels 18 of glass. A gasket seal is provided between upper and lower casings. The vessels 18 are retained in position by a plate 23 having a central sleeve 25 to receive a piston 26 carried by the casing 10a. A spring 27 forces the piston outwardly from the sleeve, the parts being normally retained in position by a pin 28 engaging slots 29, Fig. 4. The parts are released by raising plate 23, rotating so that the pin 28 passes along slot 30, and then allowing it to move along inclined slot 31 and notch 32. If hot food is placed in the vessels 18, a vacuum may be formed in the casing, so that its closure 13 must be forcibly released by a latch 37 which carries a bail 36 engaging a notch 35 on a lug 34. Latch 37 is pivoted at 44 between two ears 43 on the casing 10b, and on opening, lug 34 is first engaged, lifting casing 10a and plate 13. Further movement brings latch 37 into engagement with flange 15 on plate 13 to separate it from casing 10a.
