Abstract
594,266. Vehicle stands or supports. THORNTON, A. A. (Lopez, E.). June 21, 1945, No. 15848. [Class 79 (iii)] [Also in Group XXX] A portable jack of the type combined with a ramp for the vehicle wheel, whereby the jack may be correctly positioned in relation to the vehicle by rolling the vehicle on to the ramp is characterised by the provision of a positive and adjustable stop for the wheel on the ramp. The ramp comprises a platform 3 and retaining walls 6, 7 to which is hinged at H an orthodox screwjack 17, operated by a handle and rod 29 which passes through the base of the ramp to engage the operating shaft of jack. An adjustable stop S is provided, the example shown being pivoted in a pair of holes 8 in the side walls of the ramp, and held in operative position by a pin 13 passed through a suitable hole 9. In a modification, the ears 22 of the hinge H formed on the side wall 7 are duplicated on the side wall 6, so that the jack can be used on either side of the ramp. When not in use, the jack is folded over into the ramp, or is detached by withdrawing the hinge pin.
