Abstract
591,487. Pocket igniters. WOOLLARD, C. L. A. June 18, 1945, No. 15404. [Class 75 (iii)] A pyrophoric igniter comprises three sections - A, B, C, the bottom section C constituting a petrol reservoir 1 with a slow feed adjustable device 5 through which petrol dozes and evaporates in the middle section B containing cotton wool 7, a wick, and a tube 8 for an ignition device, the tube 8 extending into a housing 2 of the bottom section. The slow feed device may comprise a felt washer 5 adjustable by a screw 3 in an aperture 4 which serves as a filling aperture for the petrol container which has a flat base and may be designed to accommodate a standard size refill. The wick holder 11 may be provided with a large thread and knurling, and the ignition device, Fig. 4, may comprise a wheel 15 mounted on a brass bush and square-holed washers on a tube 9 tapered to be a push-fit in the tube 8, a constricted bore 14 being provided for a flint 14<1>. The tube 8 also serves to hold a spare wick and flints, and the top section A is slidably mounted on the middle section B, which may be provided with a plate for the name and address of the owner.
