Abstract
<PICT:0590998/III/1> A homogenizer comprises a casing containing spaced compressor elements in the form of springs each associated with a forcibly reciprocated member. Opposed springs may be provided which compress and work the material in opposite directions. The helical springs 20 and 21 formed of rectangular cross-section material are held between the ends of the casing 6, made in two flanged portions, and collars 28 and 33, formed with conical deflectors 29 and 30, which are screwed on to an adjusting plug 31, formed with separate left and right hand threads, and bolted and keyed to the reduced extension 45 of the reciprocating shaft 40. A retaining ring 330 for the collars carrying a retaining pin 39 is connected to the plug 31 by a bolt 36 which fits into one of the several radial bores 38. The spacing of the spring coils may be adjusted by rotating the shaft 40 and the attached plug 31. The shaft may be reciprocated by means of an adjustable eccentric plate fitted to a flywheel. Material entering at 17 is deflected outwards by the cone 29 and passes inwards through spring 21 to the outlet 18.
