Abstract

<PICT:0933709/III/1> <PICT:0933709/III/2> <PICT:0933709/III/3> A homogenizer for liquids and pulps comprises a pressure chamber into which the liquid or pulp is introduced, a homogenizing head and a discharge chamber: the homogenizing head comprises an outer member (101) having a stepped circular bore and a co-operating inner member (102) adjustably and resiliently urged thereinto, and is characterized in that the transverse annular faces (107) of the inner member are conical and form acute angles with the adjacent cylindrical surfaces of said member. The numerals refer to Figs. 5 and 6 in which cams 110 are shown which are provided on at least one member to bear on the other member and maintain a concentric relationship. The outer member preferably has correspondingly designed conical transverse faces. Fig. 1 shows the complete apparatus in which material to be homogenized is drawn through plate valve 6 into a cylinder by means of reciprocating piston 2, forced between inner and outer members 11 and 3 and leaves at 10. The inner member is supported by shaft 12 on which bears a spring 15 adjustable by handle 18. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates the manner of attachment of a pressure gauge to the piston cylinder.
