Abstract
A protein spinning solution from which filaments which do not stick together in the wet state can be spun, comprises an alkaline solution of lactic casein to which glycerine has been added in the proportion of at least 20 per cent and not more than 50 per cent of the weight of the dry casein. The filaments are spun into acid baths, i solubilized and treated in accordance with known methods. In an example, a spinning solution is made up from dry lactic casein 100 parts, caustic soda (sp. gr. 1.35) 23.5 parts, water 240 parts and glycerine 20 parts (all parts by weight). The materials are mixed, allowed to mature for 24 hours and spun, a temperature of 20 DEG C. being maintained throughout. Specifications 467,812 and 483,731 are referred to.
