Abstract
584,809. Fertilizer distributers. JOHNSON, H. C. Aug. 11, 1944, No. 15339. [Class 6 (i)] In a distributing machine for powdered fertilizers of the type in which powder is fed to a spreader and thrown transversely of the machine, the powder is fed from above on to an impact member rotating about a horizontal axis parallel to the direction of motion of the machine, an inverted U-shaped shroud being provided to guide the distributed powder transversely. In the form shown, a motor vehicle 1 is fitted with a trough-like container 3 for powdered fertilizer, the floor of the container being constituted by the upper run 6 of an endless belt conveyer which transports the powder through an adjustable opening 20 in the rear wall of the container to fall on to a pair of vaned distributers 33, 34 rotating in opposite directions about horizontal axes to project the powder transversely. Shrouds 48 extend on each side of the machine in the path of the scattered powder and confine the powder to two streams transverse to the path of the vehicle. The shrouds are fitted with adjustable baffles 70 to limit the extent of the spreading, and are attached by hinges 68 to the chassis of the vehicle so that they may be raised into a vertical position for transport purposes. A supplementary distributer 35 is provided to cover the area lying between the two distributers. The conveyer belt and distributers are driven by gearing from the motor of the vehicle. In a modification, air may be sucked into the distributers centrifugally to assist their spreading action. Specifications 560,283 and 560,687 are referred to.
