Abstract
584,326. Chimneys for gas generators. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd., and Mac- GREGOR, F. A. Aug. 9, 1944, No. 15144. [Class 25] [Also in Group XXIX] In a combined stack and safety valve for water gas generators &c. the valve b, seating on the stack a, has applied to it during the latter part of its closing movement weights o chosen according to the pressure at which the valve is to lift. The valve b is pivoted to a link f secured at one end to the axle e of a pair of wheels d running on laterally extending tracks c and at the other to an operating bell-crank g which is so disposed that it transmits largely vertical movement to the link f in the closed position of the valve shown. The final closure movement therefore seats the valve b and raises the wheels d from their tracks, whilst rollers l mounted on arms k fixed to the axle e coact with cam paths m<1> on loading lever m to raise the weights o from their supports o<2>. In a modification, the rollers and the valve are mounted directly on the axle and the final valve closure movement is effected by inclining the tracks downwardly at the appropriate point.
