Abstract
582,460. Composite building panels. HERRMANN, E. June 10, 1944, No. 8897. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A building panel comprises a facing or facings 1, 2 of board material attached to a metal grid 3, 4 by distance pieces 7 of wood, cork, millboard, rubber composition &c. engaged in C- or dovetail channels in the grid. Fig. 4 shows C-members 3b secured to H- bars 3, 4 which are clamped together at right angles by brackets 8 and bolts 9 and slots 11. In a modification, Fig. 6, two U-bars 3 are welded together to provide dovetail channels 12a; bars 4 are clamped thereto by brackets 14, 14a gripping flanges 12b on the bars 3. In further modifications, the dovetail channels are formed on hollow bars of rectangular or circular section or solid bars of rectangular section. A combined floor and ceiling panel, Fig. 12 (not shown), comprises longitudinal and transverse lattice members carrying distance pieces. The panels may be used for doors or table tops and may be faced with metal foil or. asbestos cement.
