Abstract

581,197. Moulding lenses from polystyrene &c. JOHNSON, J. June 23, 1944, No. 12013. [Class 87 (ii)] A lens mould for an injection-moulding apparatus comprises a fixed platen 16 carrying two or more dies 12, 13, and a movable platen 25 carrying complementary dies 21, 22. When the platens have been brought together, plastic material is forced into the die spaces and pushes back the dies 12, 13, against springs 17, until the dies abut the bases of the die sockets 14, 15. The springs maintain pressure on the dies 12, 13 during cooling and shrinking of the lens. In order to determine with precision the thickness of the lenses, the movement of the dies in their sockets may be limited by adjustable stops.
